BART Caring for our Community through Creativity
10:00am / Durango Arts Center
During this program we will be exploring our community in Durango and how we can give back as creatives. On December 16th they will be focusing on the art of cooking as we learn about food handling safety, how to cook meals and distribute them to the community as a fun creative pop up. On January 20th they will be learning a plethora of art skills from a variety of different guest instructors. In February we will take some of those skills in January to paint a Mural to help beautify our community. For our last two sessions in March and April we will focus on finding the value in another man's trash as we travel down the river trail finding materials to turn into found object sculptures. During these trips we will explore the local art and learn how it helps make a difference in our society.   During each session the students will also have the option of taking a creative break to learn circus skills so they can exercise both their body and minds.   This is a great program to help young artists find their confidence, learn valuable life skills all the while having fun and making new friends for years to come.   For questions, please email Mr. B, at ben@durangoarts.org. Scholarships are available. BART offers young people, ages 11 to 17, regardless of expression or identity, the opportunity to experience art, leadership and art-based opportunities.

Doors: 7:00pm /Show 8:00pm   What's thicker, our eyeliner or our guitar strings? The Surfrajettes are a four-piece instrumental combo from Toronto, ON, Canada. Since forming in late 2015, the band has charmed audiences with their clever mix of psychedelic rock and reverb-drenched surf music, sky-high beehives, go-go boots, and eyeliner as thick as their guitar strings. The band achieved viral online notoriety from their home-made performance videos and their feature by Norman's Rare Guitars in LA. The debut 45 single "Party Line / Toxic" released late 2018 on Hi-Tide Recordings to immediate success. The band has toured extensively in its support, including performances on The Beach Boys Cruise, The Melissa Etheridge Cruise, at Sea.Hear.Now, Nashville Boogie, Wild O Fest in Mexico City, The New England Shake Up!, Surf Guitar 101 Convention, Tiki Oasis & Hi-Tide Summer Holiday: Asbury Park. The band released the follow up single "Hale'iwa Hustle / Banzai Pipeline" in 2020, supported by a festival appearance at Hi-Tide Winter Holiday: Pittsburgh. The group spent the rest of 2020 and most of 2021 writing and recording their debut LP "Roller Fink" - in stores worldwide April 22, 2022 from Hi-Tide Recordings / Virgin Music. The album will be available for purchase for the very first time following their performance at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend 25 car show. The Surfrajettes are guitarists Shermy Freeman and Nicole Damof, bassist Sarah Butler, and drummer Samantha Maloney. When not on tour, the group is busy woodshedding in their secret beach hut, sewing new miniskirts, debating vintage gear, and daydreaming about performing in a Quentin Tarantino movie.   The Tailspins' debut EP is a dazzling fusion of jump blues, pre-war jazz, 1950s rock, and swing that transports listeners back to the golden eras of American music. Drawing inspiration from legends like Cab Calloway, Louis Prima and C.W. Stoneking, The Tailspins infuse their sound with a modern energy, creating a vibrant and irresistible sonic experience. Their talent and versatility were recognized by Jack White, who invited the duo to support his "Supply Chain Issues" tour in 2022. With their debut EP, The Tailspins solidify their place as a rising force in the contemporary music scene, revitalizing and reinventing the sounds of the past for a new generation
